Not Gently

The GOP is taking a break that’s very much needed
To rest up after infighting and hatred that’s impeded
The functioning of government and almost shut it down
Twice already and may again when each returning clown
On the far right side of the aisle on Dysfunction Hill
Returns to fight each other again with an angry will.

The GOP is licking wounds and resting in retreat

Before returning to resume its attempts to defeat

Every policy for poorer people Dems propose

That fortunes of their rich donors to more taxes expose

Dysfunction Hill will again be an angry battleground

When the Republicans return to at each other pound.

The GOP’s entrenched itself in factions one and two

Who fight each other while Dems try to dust both raise see through

To some clear way ahead to govern past the inner strife

Imposed by each one threatening the other with a knife

Of angry words and smug assurance they alone are right

As both take their party not gently into its good night.
