Self-Flogging

Self-flogging will continue until GOP morale 

Improves enough to make selection of only one pal

Alone all have agreed upon the House Speaker should be

Is finally chosen at last by the clear majority

But at the rate minority factions still fight that means

Their party will run red with blood and echo anguished screams.

Self-flogging will continue until morale turns around

The fractured party that with each vote loses yet more ground

In hopes flogged bloody backs instead of bickering will be

The way to overcome their inept inability

To agree on someone worthy of being the hub

Around which they all revolve (but who? Aye, there’s the rub!).

Self-flogging will continue because all factions refusing

To work with one another can’t conceive they’re the ones losing

Much less their party losing despite new polls every day

That except those funded by Fox say they’re going away

A bit more every time a vote is held they can’t control

Through vote suppression, gerrymandering, or web site troll.

Self-flogging will continue until it runs its full course

When one speaker alone each fighting faction does endorse

Which given their proclivities for infighting and hate

Means the chance government functions resume soon aren’t too great

At least in the near term they’re not and it’s too soon to see

If farther out self-flogging compels party unity.
