Of all those the Republicans would choose to next us screw
If that pair are the very best candidates they can find
To run for President above all others of their kind
The writing written on the wall will glow more cherry red
That their party’s legitimacy they chose to make dead.

Republicans by holding all their moderates at bay
Are left with none but their extremes to throw into the fray
Which means Trump or a mini-wannabe they must propose
To be the next in line to wear their emperor’s new clothes
And while candidates like that may make Dems sigh with relief
If one somehow gets in again one can predict the grief.
The theory was Trump would not run again and chance more loss
But maybe now that theory we must in the dustbin toss
Because his toads have worked hard for dear leader overtime
Gaslighting, vote suppressing, and lying he may think fine
Another run because his ego will not let him stop
Considering he’s 30 points ahead nuts next on top.
If Trump, DeSantis, Abbott, or any of their ilk wins
Democracy’s inevitable ending then begins
That’s when the whole world moves ahead while we fall far behind
And if somehow we survive history will not be kind
Because we again allowed Trump or chose his mini-me
To force us back under previously practiced tyranny.
