Power Grip

They cannot win unless they cheat so cheating more they must

And they don’t care if rule of law gets trampled in the dust

Power to them is everything so everything they do 

From here on out would dictate terms America to screw

Their goal ignores the oath they swore to renew their firm grasp

On power no minority’s demanded in the past.

So what if Democrats win more votes than they’ll ever see?

In all elections they’ll dispute vote legitimacy

While changing every rule they can on every state’s books

That was designed to prevent cheating by corrupted crooks

And by so doing to maintain around the nation’s throat

The power grip Republicans squeeze tight to freedoms choke.

In Georgia and in other states that threaten to turn blue

State GOP contingents know exactly what to do

They’re introducing bills to limit laws that now there breathe

From continuing to permit Democrats to win with ease

Their packed state courts and legislatures they’ve aligned to make

Not supporting their right to rule be a fatal mistake.

And that’s because just changing state laws some think not enough

To destroy their opponents and they want mobs to play rough

The riot in the Capitol to them was a foretaste

Of what they are prepared to incite to their foes erase

With riots and heads beaten in and lynchings they’re OK

If such things frighten foes and thus help their power grip stay.
