Intrelude

1685 poems Democratus wrote
Since Donald Trump’s reign of terror first gripped us by the throat
And burdened us with hate and rage each day unmercifully
While he played golf and conned his fine white cult with “Believe Me”.

Democratus needs a big rest and hopes one is forthcoming
So maybe he’ll sleep in tomorrow as the sun gets sunning
And maybe this poem will be the last poem that he composes
And yet somehow that’s not the way it may go, he supposes.

Well, what will be will be but ‘till it is he can but hope
That for at least an interlude the daily writing yoke
That he took on four years ago has now come to its end
With Trump replaced by our new legally elected friend.

So here’s to Joe’s and Kamala’s Inauguration Day
And to hoping that Donald Trump forever stays away
But if as he said flying out he’ll see us again soon
Thanks to the internet there’s room for lots more poems to bloom.

Meanwhile let’s celebrate the day and raise our glasses high
To toast Joe, Kamala, and we who voted Trump’s goodbye
This war yet far from over can be ultimately won
If we the people never again choose a “chosen one”.
