The farmers still support ME after all I’ve done to them!
They are convinced that given time MY tariffs will things mend
They prove I am a Great Con Man who can anyone play
Perhaps maybe I can also sell them a bridge today.

I’ve told them MY tariffs are Good and it’s an easy thing
To win Trade Wars by standing firm while each side insults fling
I can’t believe that they believe that I believe such sh*t
But, hey, when your con’s on a roll you make the most of it.

They say that “the hand has been dealt” and so stand pat with ME
We’ll see how pat they are still standing in a year or three
With soybeans backed up in their barns and prices at rock bottom
I’ll have to put new cons in play, I’d better start to plot ‘em.

I’m pretty sure MY current con will work a few more months
While I rage out at China and hope to avoid a crunch
I will keep raising tariff levels until they’re sky high
While reassuring farmers if they sit tight they’ll get by.

But even I admit MY current con can’t work forever
So tweaking it to keep farm families quiet’s MY endeavor
Maybe telling them that they at least have food will work
Unlike MY other MY tariff victims they grow it in dirt.

But if MY Trade War lingers on I don’t know what I’ll do
To convince them to hang in there and with ME see things through
As weeks and months stretch into years let’s hope that they still like
Eating soybeans as their meal each morning, noon, and night.
