The Late

Once upon a time a very long long time ago
A party called the Whigs was in our political show
They were one of two parties in America then found
The other being Democrats who still remain around
But ask about the Whigs and what you’ll get is a blank stare
Because they split, destroyed themselves, and are no longer there.

The Whigs had been united before slavery raised its head

As an issue resulting in hundreds of thousands dead

Part of the party wanted to keep slavery alive

The other part against slavery’s evil chose to strive

And so the party split which gave Republicans a chance

To become the major party next to join the dance.

Republicans back then were totally the opposite 

Of what they were before capture by Trump’s big lie bullshit

They were the kind of party that the Democrats became

When forced to stand against conservatives driven insane

By their almighty dollar-driven Capitalist greed

Which trickled through the right since Reagan with alarming speed.

And now we come to the real reason today’s poem exists:

Like Whigs Republicans are the next party on the lists

Of parties that destroyed themselves through self-inflicting wounds

Once they capitulated to their minority goons

And so refused all compromise as once the party did

Before fear forced them all to do what Dear Leader them bid.

After long years demanding secure border bills must pass

Their Chosen One kicked the bill they created in the ass

Because he wanted credit for it to himself accrue

So told his toads in Congress to the compromise bill screw

Until after elections which they all contritely did

Which slammed down on Republicans their final fatal lid.

Republicans died yesterday an unreported fate

By killing the bill they’d been so demanding of of late

The party’s gone and in it’s place the MAGA Party’s stain

Spread wide enough to dominate and for awhile will reign

At least until elections seal for our country’s final fate

Democracy or Tyranny: which one will be “The Late…”?
