Hopeful Sign

Two old white men now hate each other with a growing passion

Both want to dominate the GOP in their own fashion
One is the former President who claims he did not lose
And one looks like an old turtle who needs to take a snooze.

The loser wants the turtle gone and so he’s tried recruiting 

Senators to help him give the turtle’s shell a booting

But his pleas are not going well, perhaps his star is waining

If former ass-kissing toads from his demands are restraining.

The turtle may look sleepy but he’s cagey as can be

He intends to still be there when the loser’s history

(If indeed he ever is, right now it’s hard to say

If the egomaniac will ever go away).

The battle lines between the two are getting clearly drawn

By one who thinks he’s President and cannot change his song

And one who’s Senate puppet master who’ll keep pulling strings

As long as a rich donor lettuce to the turtle brings.

Let’s hope it is a hopeful sign Trump’s star is on the wane

If former allies ignore ‘depose’ demands so insane

To remove Mitch McConnell from his entrenched Senate seat

Perhaps because they’ve stopped buying denial of defeat.
