Dark Storm Channels

As remnants of Hurricane Ida outside arrive
Inside one wonders how a broken nation can survive
When half of it’s been conned into believing that Trump won
While at the same time the other half hates the chosen one.

Jan. 6’s insurrection Republicans gaslight away

To keep holding their day of reckoning somehow at bay

And trust voter suppression laws will stack decks in their favor

So future elections they steal they can already savor.

Republicans so desperate to maintain their grip on power

Change state election laws behind which their slim ranks can cower
While vile wing nuts filling those ranks dominate the news

And rumors spread future elections more wing nuts won’t lose.

Republicans blame Biden for loss in Afghanistan

Conveniently forgetting roles they played in that war’s plan

They have made things so partisan to such extreme degree

There's no hope unity can replace constant Me Me Me.

As Mother Nature’s hurricanes increase in angry fury

Republican’s fossil fuel friends claim there’s no need to worry

As Covid-19 variants kick up red state death counts

Governors on school children in masks with mandates pounce.

Democrats who keep trying to make old rules apply

Get blocked by neo-Nazi bigots every time they try

To enact laws to help all those except the one percent

Who use the toads they’ve bought in Congress to wealth loss prevent.

Outside thunder is rumbling across lightning lit skies

While inside dark despair grows easier to realize

But dim hope springs eternal so still on Trump Poems will go

To satirize dark storm channels along which now we flow.
