The Racist Card

When things in your state fall apart and are not going well
Because Covid is sending all your residents to hell
And your political party has gone to hell also
Because it acted dumb about the virus from the go
And pundits on your far-right news undergo lots of flack
Because their stupid comments have increased the bug attack
There is only one way alone your side can deflect blame
And that’s to pull out an old deck and play the racist game. 

The racist game has always been Republican’s go-to

Ever since it split from the party that Lincoln knew

And became Deep South champion of racism’s strange fruit

That for a little while America tried hard to boot

But which has raised its ugly head again by those who say

They’ve had nothing to do with COVID not going away

So this time it’s brown immigrants the racist card has blamed

For bringing Covid across borders Trump’s wall never claimed.

How to deflect the criticism those to blame are are feeling?

The ways Republicans are choosing is very revealing:

As Covid ravages through red states red governors unite 

To deflect blame from the insane things they’ve done day and night

Like passing anti-mask bills through executive decree

Forbidding schools to warn parents about threats children see

Insisting cruise ships dock at ports where masks have been outlawed 

And other actions so insane they could not be more flawed

So now infected immigrants must bear the racist blame 

For bringing Covid into states where no immigrants came

Because those there who passed laws making Covid come to stay

Will never admit blame for anything they do or say

That returned virus levels in their states back to pandemic

Thanks to resistance to intelligence that’s been systemic

So once again the racist card by culprits has been played

To deflect blame away from those on whom it’s clearly laid.
