Going It Alone

Deep in the heart of Texas there’s a governor who struts
Around demanding border walls no ifs or ands or buts
Because Trump’s wall down there went bust without Mexican pay
He’s taken it upon himself to build one anyway
And that means that he has to find alternate chunks of dough
And so if Mexico won’t pay why not New Mexico?

New Mexico borders on Texas, Oklahoma too
As does Louisiana, so that’s three states he can screw
Because somebody has to pay to keep drug traffic out
And Texas can’t do it alone, of that he has no doubt
So Abbott’s sure if he demands his border states chip in
He can preserve his state’s budget to fight fake votes and sin.

But to protect Texas his wall must encircle his state
Which will cost a lot because its landmass is very great
Since evil caravans can enter it from every side
So his three border states may run from him but cannot hide
From his demands for wall money because each side’s a threat
And you can just imagine what each will tell him, I bet.

This poem is a small exercise in rhyming fantasy
About how dumb Republicans consequences don’t see
That result from dumb things they do and say to maintain power
Within their states in which they strut and whine and in fear cower
America may split apart due to dumb things they’re doing
And if does states they split from won’t pay for their self-screwing.
