It’s really no mystery how Donald Trump
Got fine white Republicans (and one black chump)
To trade what was left of what honor they had

For footnotes in history that will be sad

The legacy 43 secured today

Will unlike dear leader not soon fade away.

These cowards in Trump’s second mob on the hill

Also attacked government to do it ill

Whatever oath they took they chose to ignore

Preserving democracy got their low score

Their fear of job loss and their lives on the line

Got them to vote to acquit a second time.

They may get another chance to cast “no” votes

If Trump again runs with his noose ‘round their throats

That chokes off what honor they once might have had

But they’re not worth the time it takes to stay mad

They knew what Trump is and they proved what they are

And the future will not award them a star.

So let them pretend that their vote signifies

Whatever they need to think it justifies

The stance that they took to condone tyranny

Which so alarms those not them whose eyes still see

And let the role call of the names each vote slated

Forever with cowardice now be equated.
