Book Banners Burned

Books being burned in Tennessee are all “Occultist” tracts
Harry Potter and Twilight are subject to attacks
Because they involve evil witchcraft they did not expunge
When ancestors in Salem got the people burning urge
So maybe next they’ll subject their own children to the flame
If those kids sneak peeks at books parents’ pastors so defame.

When the Holocaust book “Maus” was banned in some Tenn. schools

Its sales numbers shot through the roof which mystified the fools

Who thought they could prevent school kids from wanting to read books

Because their school’s authorities told them to not take looks

What adults tell kids not to do to those things kids are driven

Because that’s how it’s always been since people started livin’.

Germany’s Nazis would be pleased there are still book burnings

Because like Tennessee pastors they thought flames could stop yearnings

But Fahrenheit 451’s heat has not ever snuffed

The drive of brains intelligent to tell those not “get stuffed”

And to learn from books things they’ve been told by authority

Were ideas that to Godly lives are contradictory.

The final footnote to today’s poem before it is done

Shows just how deep in unread fools drives to burn books can run

When told about a book wherein daughters got their dad drunk

In order to have sex with him book burners did not shrug

They angrily agreed a book like that in flames they’d fan

Until they learned their holy bible was the book they’d ban.
