Rent Asunder

People are shocked, shocked I tell you, there’s movement today
To split the nation in two parts that go their separate way
Trump voters in deep southern states are ready to secede
Although they’d then be screwed without the basic things they need
Like hospitals and schools and more than cult intelligence
But they would rather split than remain sitting on the fence.

The north once had key industries but the key word is “had”

But liberals there too consider secession not bad

As many libs as Trumpers say the country ought to split

In two down lines of red and blue and just be done with it

Because the way things are going in our poor sorry nation

Things now appear impossible for reconciliation.

Science fiction novels have a theme that they explore

About two separate countries where there once were three before

North and West Coast join Canada to one nation become

While South, Mid, and Far West combine to become and then some

The kind of country that existing before Civil War

Kicked white males off the pinnacle they claimed as theirs before.

So the “The United States of Canada” becomes one nation

And “Jesusland” the other where no racial integration

Is ever again allowed to rear its ugly lib face

While up north integration efforts continue apace

The only change needed to this SF scenario

Is “Jesusland” to “Trumpland” since he’ll be the God they know.

And since there seems less chance each day to ever reconcile

Two parts of one nation grown separate by many a mile

It may well be the SF theme is more than speculation

But rather how to save democracy within one nation

By letting half of that nation split sharply from the other

And build a wall to isolate the part Trump rent asunder.
