97 years ago Benito seized full power
As Trump tried January 6th from his safe White House bower
In Italy Il Duce pulled off a successful coup
Here although Trump’s coup failed he’s not yet done pulling it through.
History does not repeat but there are times it rhymes
And Trump and Mussolini are a rhyming pair of slimes
And given Mussolini’s end perhaps there’s still some hope
That someday something will Trump’s engorged ego sharply poke.
But who knows how his end will come?, we’ll have to wait and see
Where twists of tragic farce masquerading as comedy
Will lead us to in coming years should elections be run
By slimy state-controlling toads who love the chosen one.
The writing’s not yet on the wall but it’s inscribing fast
And growing clearer with each anti-democratic blast
Republican fascists congealed upon the extreme right
Are implementing to snuff out hope’s dim last rays of light.
Let’s hope Trump someday is remembered in the panoply
Of fascist leaders who tried to bend nations to their knee
And for a bit of time seemed were unstoppable until
Something somehow came riding over some distant hill.
But what’s coming over that hill had better ride here fast
Before more GOP voter suppression laws are cast
That help Trump’s fascist wannabe rule still remain in yoke
Until sharp spears arrive from somewhere to his ego poke.
